By 98eldocoupeApril 27, in General Cadillac Forums. Cleared several times and it always came back. Mechanic new to this car as Caddy dealership closed down found one fan's bearings was faulty motor grinding and he decided to replace both accessory fans and the one of the 3 relays tested bad.
Warning light returned, same code, then they replaced the additional 2 relays. I was told one fan goes on when the radiator temp hits a certain level, the 2nd goes on when additonal cooling is needed and also for use with the defrosters.
After repair, "Service Engine Soon" again, same code, mechanic thinks it's a bad wire in the harness. Wants to replace this. Other issues I have noticed during the past 6 mths maybe related maybe not, driver's window sometimes does not work, up or down, "Serv Stab.
Now before I OK the replacement of the BCM which I hope will solve this problem, is there anything else that needs to be checked first, it just seems they are chasing the problem down, step by step and perhaps not looking at the overall and addressing the real problem if there is one?
When you have several electrical problems it never hurts to check the battery contacts and cables for corrosion and tightness. Oddball electrical problems, on rare occasions, have been traced to poor connections on the underside of the engine compartment fuse block.
There is no means of avoiding the final collapse of a boom brought about by credit expansion. The alternative is only whether the crisis should come sooner as the result of a voluntary abandonment of further credit expansion, or later as a final and total catastrophe of the currency system involved. I've been reading that these accessory fans go on "LO" when temp reaches degrees and "HI" when coolant temp reaches degrees Other posts state they turn on when temp reaches and off when back down to When I test this out, only one, the pass.
Only did this test in a parked position, have not driven it yet to see if both fans come on or not. I agree with Warren, with the exception that I don't think it's a long shot, but more that it's more likely a cause for a 10 - 11 year old car. Tracing what the problems share in common will help you diagnose this - ie fuse block, connectors.
After you check the underside of the fuse panels etc, check some of the connectors, and clean if necessary.
I'm not sure if there is a cleaner made specifically for cleaning, coating connectors, I've been using wd for many years on all my car's external electrical connectors with no ill effects. If both fans don't come on, it's a wiring problem or one of the fans because they are electrically hooked in series for the low speed.
This cannot be the PCM. I would get that fixed first, before I address the other observed issue, cycling on and off, which could be due to a perfectly good PCM seeing that the fan circuits are not working properly, throwing a code, shutting them off, and trying again. The mechanic clearly isn't checking the car before giving it back to you. This is a big no-no for dealer work. That right there would have me looking for a dealer, or a better dealer. Check the cooling fans; with the car off and engine cold, make sure that they both turn freely.
Then, check the cooling fan wiring, relays and fuses. So now i'm stuck thereBy hiljakMay 12, in General Cadillac Forums. I've had an ongoing problem with my 05 STS not starting.
About a month ago, my car just wouldn't start. The lights and all acceseries would work fine, but when I would hit the start button, nothing, just the orange engine light for 20 seconds, then everything would kick back on.
I baught a new battery which seemed to fix the issue. The next morning, car won't start again. Swapped the battery again and it worked. Everything seemed fine for a day or two, then the car does it again. I fiddled with the battery connections unscrewed then screwed them back in and after a few more presses of the button, the car started and continued to work for a couple weeks.
This lead me to believe that maybe the start button was worn and not making the full connection when pressed. I swapped the start button and everything was fine for about a month.
Now, same thing happening. I don't think its the battery because the car won't crank with a craftsman jumper charger connected either and battery reads like 13 volts on the dash. What else can I do here?
I'm going to maybe have the battery swapped under warranty tomorrow. Any ideas of how to trouboeshoot this? I checked the starter power wire and was seeing The purple wire feeding the starter solenoid was displaying.
Decided to remove the starter relay and jump the points manually with a jumper wire; this made the starter turn over immediately. I put the relay back in and the car fired right up. I'm not sure what this is telling me.
5 Common Symptoms of a Failing Body Control Module (BCM)
It would seem the relay was bad but I tried another good relay earlier and the starter still didn't engage and the relay is working fine now. I'm thinking either. The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom s described in this PI. Torque the fastener to 18 Nm 13 lb ft. Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step.
If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.First introduced on the C-body Cadillac, the body control module BCM has been used on Cadillac systems ever since. The BCM interacts and exchanges information with the powertrain control module PCM and is a smaller version with all the same parts of the engine computer, but responsible for controlling different functions. The body control module is responsible for controlling the climate in a Cadillac.

The Cadillac's power windows, sunroof and trunk release are also functions controlled by the body control module. When driving a Cadillac, drivers are displayed information on the information display panel, which adjusts for visual clarity under different driving conditions, controlled by the BCM. A major function of the BCM system is the ability to monitor itself, providing fault codes when faults are found.
In some cases, the BCM uses this information to provide fail-safe measures to compensate for system failure. All interior lights and gauges appear to be working properly. Tried jumping the car, no go. Took the battery to be tested and it tested okay but I purchased a replacement just to be sure as the dealer had replaced the battery under warranty just 2 years before when this happened.
The car still will not start. Have checked all fuses and they are fine. I had been driving the car the day it started the issue. Came home shut off car, went back outside to leave and it wouldn't start. Gauges came on but went out after I pushed start button. Then it started on its own. Then it wouldn't start again. Replaced battery still no start. Guess I'm going to have it towed to the dealer. My car only has 95, miles on it. I'm second owner and purchased it when it had 33, miles. No other problems to speak of.
Do you. That is weird, no one has gotten back to us on this problem. It sure sounds like a BCM to me but with having the car in front of me it's tough to tell. When you find out can you please get back to us so it will help others?
Best, Ken Was this answer. Yes, I had it towed to the dealer yesterday, said it would be a few days before they can get to it. Was this answer. Hey, Did you ever get the problem fixed? Cheers, Ken Was this answer. Ken, I am jumping in here, a year later, with the same problem. Did anybody ever respond with a solution, I just joined 2CarPros so I hope we can help each other.
Thank you, Dale Was this answer. Yes, people are not getting back it looks like but when I re-read this post it sounds more like the PCM has gone out because that is what the code is for. We are interested to see what it is.
Hi Ken, You also replied to a long description of my symptoms so we might have two threads going on here for the same problem. There you suggested trying another PCM. Any pearls or wisdom here? Thanks, Dale Was this answer. The only after market J device I trust is the Drew Tech. Many different situations will trigger the computer to display a warning on the instrument panel. After the issue that generated the fault code is repaired or resolved, the engine control module may need to be reset for the computer to recalibrate itself and dismiss the fault code. Pull down on the top of the fuse panel lid beneath the steering column. Remove the fuse panel lid. Turn the ignition switch to "ON" without starting the engine. It streamlines the manufacturing and troubleshooting aspects of electronic modules by housing the modules into one, central unit instead of each function having its own device. It also coordinates the operating functions of many non-engine related ancillary items as well as security features.
In certain instances, these items may not operate at all. A malfunctioning BCM will activate dashboard instrumentation cluster error and warning lights. These lights may flash off and on if the BCM is not able to read the sensors correctly.
Your vehicle performance may also be affected as the BCM communicates with other control modules in the vehicle. Parasitic drain is due to components in your vehicle continuing to run after the key is turned off. Some parasitic drain is normal — your battery delivers enough energy to keep things like your clock, your radio presets and your security alarm operational.
Sometimes, parasitic drain exceeds what is normal, and can cause car battery drain.
5 Common Symptoms of a Failing Body Control Module (BCM)
In many cases, your BCM will alert you to issues with symptoms, warning lights or both. The key is to heed these warning signs, take prompt action and seek help. Avoiding these warning signs or delaying taking action could cause further vehicle damage, or even a system-wide failure. BCM problems can also mask issues with other modules in your vehicle.
