Keihin carburetors are constant velocity carburetors. They have a vacuum operated slide that changes the diameter of the main opening, called a venturi, in the side of the device. Constant velocity carburetors were invented by English motorcycle racers, but they are now called Keihin carbs after the Japanese manufacturer that first mass-produced them. For decades, these carburetors were standard equipment on numerous Japanese, British, German and American motorcycles, until they were eventually replaced by fuel injectors.
Turn on your motorcycle fuel supply. You will probably open a small faucet under the left side of your fuel tank called a petcock. The exact method of turning on the fuel supply may vary from motorcycle to motorcycle. Pull out the choke. Start the motorcycle in neutral and run the engine for about five minutes, until the engine begins to radiate heat. Push the choke all the way in. If the engine stumbles or starts to stall, pull the choke part way out. Twist the throttle open, with the bike in neutral, two or three times and let the throttle snap back.
Keihin carburetors use two throttle cables and a spring-operated throttle return. Listen to the engine. If the motorcycle runs without stumbling with the throttle open, but not at idle -- the idle speed may be set to low.
Identify the throttle cam on the carburetor by looking at the front of the carburetor and opening and closing the throttle. The sheet metal stamping that moves is the throttle cam. As long as you've been paying attention, nobody knows how your engine sounds better than you do, so if it starts to sound odd or even just a little different, there could be a problem. Catching problems early on can help you avoid time at the repair shop later, not to mention the impact on your wallet. For example, a hissing sound from under the hood could indicate a number of possible problems.

Possible Cause: A bad power steering pump. Possible Cause: A bad air conditioning compressor. This is not a DIY job. Possible Cause: Cracked or broken exhaust manifold. Sometimes it's loud, sometimes it's not so loud. Possible Cause: Camshaft timing belt or chain has slipped. Possible Cause: I gnition timing needs adjusting. Hello everyone. I put about 70 hours total run time on the boat last summer, then winterized it. I dropped it in the water in late June and it has been running like a top. Fluids are all topped up, I did an oil change at the end of last season. Trying to get out of the hole and up on plane, the engine begins to surge at rpm.
No sign of any leaks in the fuel lines. I'm wondering if I need to check the fuel pump and fuel pressure. I had new plugs put in at the beginning of last season again, about 70 hours on them. Any advice is appreciated. Tags: None. Do you have a fuel filter installed prior to the fuel water separator hat has not been changed?

I thought the new fuel water separator install today would have fixed the problemA Big Bear is an all-terrain vehicle first introduced in by Yamaha. With the earlier versions as well as the later versions, and above, there are a handful of problems that riders can and may experience. In most cases, these issues can be fixed by making a few adjustments or performing routine maintenance.
Even later models of the Big Bear have been known to have torque and throttle problems. This means that when the rider cranks the engine and begins to ride, it will eventually lose its torque, perhaps even after 5 to 10 minutes. If this happens, the ATV will eventually act as if it is flooding out. These problems could be due to a cracked or sticky float, or the spark plug might need to be replaced. As with any vehicle, it is best to have a certified dealer or mechanic take a look and potentially fix the problem.
On older models, the Big Bear has been known to eventually experience throttle issues, causing the ATV to run terribly. When this happens, the driver might think that the vehicle isn't receiving enough gas, but in actuality, it could mean that the Big Bear needs to warm up for a moment before racing off.
Occasionally, cleaning the air filter and dissembling the carburetor could fix this problem, but a assembling a new carburetor kit could be the answer.
A Yamaha specialist should be contacted to discuss any throttle problems. Some riders who own a Big Bear have experienced transmission problems. With a blown transmission, it will either need to be replaced or inspected by a certified Yamaha specialist. Big Bears aren't generally made to go past 40 MPH, so if a rider forces the ATV to go any faster ,the transmission could experience problems or become damaged. To prevent transmission failure, do not overwork the vehicle and force it to run at a higher speed.
If a Big Bear is idling up extremely high and then cutting off, the ATV will most likely be experiencing carburetor issues. If you're experiencing any carburetor issues, the first step to try to resolve these problems is by removing the carburetor and soaking it for 24 to 48 hours in a carburetor cleaner.
Once the carburetor has soaked, allow it to dry. If cleaning the carburetor doesn't work, a certified Yamaha professional could easily assess the problem and how to fix the carburetor issue. It'll sometimes stall and die when riding it due to this and can only go around 35 40 mph. They've done the top end and put a new carburetor on with no success.
They disconnected the brake sensor and says this has made it ride better but it still bogs down. Any help or input is much appreciated. It's a nice looking quad with an aftermarket bully bar, back storage rack and new tires. Is it worthwhile or may be a basket case? I would lean on checking the air flow first and then mess with the carb. If they redid the top end or made some modifications, the carb may be jetted wrong and a new jet could solve the issues.

My Yamaha F75 four stroke outboard is misbehaving.
I have a Yamaha When I started it Once I hit the choke and it jumps past the part where it wants to bog down and I give it more throttle, it will run like a new motor from about 8mph to WOT and wil run anywhere between those speeds flawlessly all day long. A bad or sticking carburetor float causes engine problems.
I have a 50 yamaha with hrs on it. I have a F with zero problems since new. The motor would not die, it would just bog down and lose the power. Now, the F, F and F are available with either digital or mechanical controls. I just bought a used Yamaha XL, my first waverunner, and it has problems. It is getting worse daily and has even started to idle rough.
Just had my hour service and replaced the High and Low pressure pump but not the float and valve. If then everything goes back to normal you will know for sure it's the float and maybe needle.
Most suggest cleaning carb and new air filter. Condition only present under load. May be a combo of several of those things.

When I put it I the water, and put it in gear, I can't get over rpms. Also, have you checked the spark on all cylinders? Important to rule that out too and easy to do. And it happens almost every time I run it for an extended amount of time.
If they clog, the injectors need replacing. Any idea why my F loses power at higher power settings? Sounds like the accelerator pump isn't working, or pilot is partially plugged, or air mixture is too lean.
